Alpha Express is both a human and an entrepreneurial adventure.
Discover our history in a few key dates.
Creation, by a group of friends, of the cooperative company Alpha Express in Philippe Ballenghien’s flat.
Only Florence Siska and Philippe Ballenghien persevered the adventure. The vehicles used were the private vehicles of each of them, bicycles, or, for special orders, rented vehicles. Of course, the current means of communication did not exist as we know them today. At that time, the partners were responsible for all services, including answering the phone, prospecting, invoicing, cleaning the office, etc.
1990: moving to rue du Sceptre, still in Ixelles, in a former shop at the corner of rue Vandenbroeck. 3 drivers joins the team.
1991 : creation of the “JET” service (all of Belgium for 350 Belgian francs).
Purchase of Pagers. Team of 10 drivers.
1992 : purchase of the first radio telephones.
1993 : convertion of the cooperative into a limited liability company. Team of 15 drivers.
1997 : purchase of the building rue du Vivier, 59 in Etterbeek. The team grows to 35 drivers. Generalization of Cell phones replacing beepers and radio telephones.
1999 : 2 employees were hired for administrative tasks. The number of drivers has increased by 15!
2002 : purchase of the building in rue de la Confiance in Etterbeek (much larger with warehouse, parking, office). The first GPS units are appearing.
2003 : Designation changes from limited liability company into a public limited company. Alpha Express has now 50 drivers. The administrative staff is also growing.
2004 : Alpha Express offers international services. After intensive negotiations with the ‘major players’ in the international transport industry, Alpha Express is able to provide this new service at a very competitive price, attracting a flood of new customers. A new employee was recruited to work full time on that project.
2005 : The use of GPS enables Alpha Express drivers to work faster. An additional employee has been recruted and is responsible of the warehouse. Alpha Express needs an increasing number of drivers and counts a total of 60 drivers.
2008 : installation of a real time tracking system on some vehicles, which Alpha Express intends to extend to all vehicles during 2008, in order to respond even more quickly and accurately to its customers’ requirements.
The world of transport is in the middle of a revolution.
